Graduate Research
Graduate students in the lab are part of UMass Lowell’s Biology M.S. or Applied Biology Ph.D. programs. See Expectations of graduate students for what I expect of graduate students in the lab.
Program handbook
The department and Graduate School handbooks set out your program’s official requirements:
- M.S. handbook: TBD
- Ph.D. handbook: TBD
To be written.
Possible content:
- Which parts of those handbooks are most important
- Where lab practices go beyond the program’s requirements
Timeline and milestones
I will work with graduate students to assemble an advisory committee and a complementary set of mentors, and to develop, discuss, and maintain an Individual Development Plan (IDP). IDPs are updated each August/September (see the Annual schedule).
Publication goals for M.S. and Ph.D. students are described under Manuscripts.
To be written. A table for each degree could work well here.
Possible content:
- Year-by-year milestones for M.S. and Ph.D. students (coursework, forming the committee, proposal, qualifying exam, committee meetings, defense)
- Program deadlines and paperwork
- When to start applying for fellowships and funding
Templates
To be written. Templates could live in the lab_utilities repo and be linked here.
Possible content:
- Thesis/dissertation proposal template
- Committee meeting report template
- IDP template
