Timelines for feedback
Across all of these, there needs to be clear communication about upcoming deadlines. Typically I ask that you give me at least:
One week to review abstract drafts
Two weeks to provide feedback on papers or proposals
One week to find time to run through slides (this is just to find time for the run through - leave enough time for going through the run-through and making any changes). Even better, give a practice talk during lab meeting!
If I will require more time for something, I’ll communicate that as soon as possible. If you are going to require feedback on a shorter timeframe you need to let me know in advance (avoid this whenever possible though).
Keep in mind that abstracts, presentations, and papers are extremely unlikely to be ready for submission right off the bat - you need to leave time for several rounds of revision before a deadline.
Student Research and Community Engagement Symposium
The Student Research and Community Engagement Symposium is UMass Lowell’s annual showcase of student research, held each spring towards the end of March. I expect all students doing research in ZEAL to present at this event. The abstract submission deadline is typically in mid-February so be sure to plan accordingly.
