ZEAL and Gignoux-Wolfsohn Lab funded to study oyster reef biodiversity

Published

March 24, 2026

Supported by the new Community Biodiversity Grant program from the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, this new grant will support surveys of the biodiversity supported by oyster reefs on the North Shore. By combining surveys of benthic invertebrates and fish with information on the planktonic organisms over the reefs, we’ll get a better understanding of how these critical habitats support the health of nearshore communities.

We’re excited to get out to the field sites this summer! You can read more about the projects on the official news release, or in this story written up by the university!
